Zambia is home to a wide variety of peoples and cultures across southern Africa. While the Gospel has a strong presence throughout much of the country, about 130,000 people still live among unreached people groups, and some communities remain in need of a clear Gospel witness and locally led churches.

That is why the local church matters so deeply. A church is more than a place to meet, it becomes a spiritual home where believers can grow, leaders can be raised up, and the hope of Christ can take root and spread throughout the surrounding community.

While Zambia is a relatively reached nation and not located in “the Tension Belt”, in 2020 we discovered an unengaged Unreached people group called the Tambo and felt God calling us to send workers to them.

“This year, the spread of the Gospel across Tambo land was clearly seen as 300 believers were baptized in my group. In areas where there were no streams, believers even dug a small dam and lined it with plastic so new disciples could publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ. It was a powerful picture of the Gospel taking root, and many earlier believers are now serving as laborers in the harvest.”

Stories like this show why local churches matter. As people come to faith, local churches provide a place for new believers to be baptized, grow as disciples, and be equipped to carry the Gospel into their own communities.
